SKINPEN® MICRONEEDLING

pgimg_skinpen.jpg

SkinPen® microneedling is a quick, easy, and effective non-surgical treatment that can improve the tone, texture, and overall youthful qualities of your skin in a number of treatment areas.

The Benefits of Microneedling

During your microneedling session, your practitioner will use a handheld device to create tiny channels into the topmost layers of your facial tissue. The process stimulates collagen production in your skin while also releasing a helpful cascade of natural growth factors. It also lets us introduce rejuvenating agents into the subdermal layers, encouraging the development of new, healthy skin.

Rediscover Your Youthful Glow with SkinPen Microneedling

Dramatically improve the look and feel of your skin with minimal downtime! Not ready for lasers or other invasive procedures, SkinPen may be the answer you’ve been looking for. SkinPen, a type of microneedling, is an FDA-cleared device that uses fine needles to create controlled punctures in the upper layer of the skin.

This controlled injury causes the body’s natural wound repair response, stimulating collagen production and sending a cascade of restorative compounds to the treatment area. The result is effective remodeling of the skin while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact. Best of all, SkinPen is safe for all skin types and skin concerns!

SkinPen microneedling offers the ability to enjoy exciting results with little to no downtime and a minimal recovery period.

Why Choose Microneedling?

The providers at Halcyon may recommend microneedling if you are ready for a more intensive approach than other skin treatments offer. In addition, we sometimes advise our patients to combine microneedling with other regimens, like laser skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, and home skincare products.

Following your treatment, you’ll enjoy:

  • A reduction in the number and depth of acne scars

  • Softer, less noticeable scarring from trauma

  • Fewer and less prominent wrinkles and facial lines

  • A decrease in pigmented areas of skin

  • Improved tone and texture

  • A restoration of your youthful glow

Is Microneedling Right for Me?

Acne scarring, old injuries, wrinkles, and fine lines can age and wear your facial features. Microneedling promotes smoother, healthier-looking skin and an overall more youthful and attractive appearance. This treatment can also help correct pigmentation issues such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), melasma, and lentigines.

SkinPen provides more noticeable improvement than you may have gotten with treatments such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels. The technology offers a predictable and effective avenue for rejuvenating your skin and facial features. Best of all, SkinPen is safe and approved for all skin types.

What Is the SkinPen Treatment Like?

The SkinPen microneedling treatment is performed in our comfortable office by our well-trained staff. Most patients experience mild to minimal discomfort, and a topical numbing cream will be applied prior to your treatment for increased comfort.

A minimum of three treatments is typically recommended, though some skin conditions will need a series of six treatments for optimal results. Treatments are performed every four weeks, and the use of medical-grade skincare is recommended in between treatments.

Your skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately after your treatment session, similar to what you might experience with a sunburn. The addition of plasma to the surface of the skin can reduce the redness a little quicker and aid in collagen stimulation and pore reduction.

What Will My Recovery Be Like?

One of the best parts about microneedling is that there is practically no downtime. That being said, your face may have a reddish appearance with some markings from the device in the hours following your microneedling treatment session, so it may be best to recover at home until this dissipates. For many people, this redness takes on the appearance of a light sunburn or a wonderful glow, and typically fades after just a day or two.

If the treatment was intense, some patients experience peeling, but this is rare. Depending on the depth of your treatment, you may see some temporary marks from the device. You’ll be restricted from wearing makeup for 24 hours to give your skin time to breathe so it can start repairing itself. It will also be important to make sure that you avoid excessive sweating or sun exposure for 72 hours following the procedure.

We recommend not scheduling social events the day of or after your SkinPen treatment, but every patient is different and responds to the treatment in their own way. During your consultation, we’ll give you a very clear idea of what you can expect both during and after your treatment session, along with aftercare instructions that will help you preserve and maintain your results for as long as possible.

The Microneedling Experience

  • You will receive a topical numbing cream, which will promote your comfort during the microneedling process.

  • Your practitioner will treat your skin with the microneedling device. We will apply the device to the entire face unless you are only targeting a single scar or very limited skin issues.

  • This ensures that your facial features post-treatment have a consistent, healthy, and smooth appearance.

  • After microneedling, we will apply one or several rejuvenating agents. These may include hyaluronic acid gel, as well as a biocellulose mask for immediate cooling.

Am I a good candidate for microneedling?

Of course, not every patient with one of these conditions will qualify for microneedling. The patient must have generally healthy skin that’s free of infection or skin breakouts.

Additionally, some skin types just don’t respond well to specific treatments. The providers at Halcyon Dermaesthetics will determine if this procedure is the right treatment for the desired results.

PRP Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma, otherwise known as PRP, helps repair cells by utilizing growth factors within the plasma. The addition of PRP helps accelerate collagen production. It can also improve healing and decrease redness and swelling seen after SkinPen microneedling. This treatment was once commonly referred to as “vampire facial.”

  • Is this peel for me?
SkinCeuticals® Advanced Corrective Peel is ideal for people with all skin types concerned with mild to moderate signs of aging, stubborn discoloration, and uneven tone and texture. Advanced Corrective Peel effectively targets discoloration, renewing skin's surface for an overall brighter, more clarified, even skin tone and texture.
  • How will my skin look after the peel?
Immediately following the peel, skin may appear red and feel sensitive. In the days following the peel, skin may experience some flaking, sheet peeling, and possibly a temporary darkening of surface pigment that will flake off. Once skin has finished exfoliating, it will appear radiant and smooth, with an improvement in overall clarity and even skin tone.
  • Will I peel?
The degree of peeling and surface pigment darkening will vary based on skin type and skin condition and should not be a factor in determining success of the peel. Factors that can affect variations include: first time peeling, frequency of peels, frequent use of retinoids, frequent use of at-home chemical exfoliants, and resistant skin types.
  • How long will I peel?
Light flaking or sheet peeling may occur, and can last for 2-6 days depending on the intensity of the treatment. Discuss with your skincare professional in advance to optimize your expected outcome.
  • How often should I receive the Advanced Corrective Peel?
SkinCeuticals® Advanced Corrective Peel is designed for maximum customization to fit individualized skin needs, and to evolve over time as your treatments and skin concerns change. For optimum results, a series of 4-6 treatments every 4 weeks is recommended. Complement peels with a SkinCeuticals homecare regimen to help reduce down time and enhance long-term results.
